Fly Fishing Community/Education/Conservation
Gary Flippen will talk about the history of fishing on the White River, before and after the dams were built.
Gary is a longtime resident of Cotter. He started guiding on the White River when he was thirteen years old. He started working at the Rim Shoals Trout Dock in 1965 when it was owned by Jenny Smith. In 1972 Gary went to work for Missouri Pacific Railroad as an engineer, where he worked for 43 years. In 1994 Gary and his wife Paula acquired Rim Shoals Trout Dock and opened Rim Shoals Resort.
Gary has long had a deep interest in the history of the White River and the world class fishing that has always existed on the river. Gary will talk about how, before the dams, there were float trips for smallmouth bass between Branson and Cotter. About how the construction of the dams changed a world class smallmouth fishery to a world class trout fishery in the Bull Shoals tailwater. This will be a very interesting program!
