Mike Tipton just recently returned from a trip to British Columbia, Canada
where he spent about a week riding trains on tracks that covered over 1600 miles. He rode 900 on the Rocky Mountaineer which includes fine dining and unlimited booze served by attractive young women. He also rode the famed Skeena route which included ham and cheese sandwiches wrapped in cellophane and a choice of Molson’s or a Coors light. But food and booze weren’t the point of the trip. The point of the trip was the views of the Canadian Rockies and the British Columbia Coast Range covered with snow. These were terrific! He will have pictures!
Mike and his wife Karen have also ridden Via’s Canadian and Ocean. Mike will also talk about these famous railway journeys.
Mike acquired the travel bug early, he was born in Heidelberg Germany, his mother was one of first group of wives to join their husbands in Germany after WW2. Mike and Karen, both software engineers, retired in 2005 and moved to Mountain Home for the trout fishing and to escape the traffic and winters of Minneapolis. Since then, Mike has been president of NAFF, a several time Sowbug chair, and the editor of the NAFF newsletter for almost forever.
