We’ll kick off the new year with an outing to Rockbridge on Friday, January 2. John Berry traditionally led New Year’s Day trips, but after considering the universal January 1 condition— “general recovery”—we’ve granted everyone a 24-hour grace period. You’re welcome.
Rockbridge is best described as Dry Run Creek for grown-ups: heavily stocked, wonderfully managed, and full of trout that have absolutely no intention of surrendering quietly. These are big, thick-shouldered rainbows that fight like they’ve got somewhere better to be.
Rockbridge is a pay-to-play fishery. The club will pay for half of the entry fee ($135 + tax) for half day catch-and-release access (Your Treasurer has been informed and is breathing into a paper bag.) This is a MEMBER ONLY event.
Half-day is loosely defined at Rockbridge—particularly in winter—so don’t be surprised if we get a bit of “generous interpretation” on fishing hours.
You must register and pay ($70/person) in advance via the NAFF website no later than Dec.31st. On the day of the outing, everyone meets at the main lodge at 8:00 AM to check in and pick up permits.
We’ll wrap up with a tailgate-style meal, timing dependent on fish cooperation and rod breakage count.
